Part time Police Officer in Fatal Collision with Stolen Vehicle

On Friday, October 16, a part time police officer died after his vehicle was involved in a fatal collision with a stolen Ford Focus.

According to authorities, the accident happened at around 8 a.m. at 123rd Street and Metcalf Avenue. A Ford Focus, which was stolen in Kansas City, ran a red light, and collided with a vehicle being driven by 58 year old David M. Stubbs. His vehicle then crashed into two other vehicles. Leawood police had already tried to stop the driver after receiving reports of an intoxicated driver, but he failed to stop. Police have stated that he was not being pursued at the time of the accident.

Stubbs, who was a part time police officer in Louisburg, Kansas was taken to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the stolen vehicle fled from the scene of the accident and hid in a nearby apartment, gaining entry through an unlocked door. He was found hiding in a back bedroom by a woman living in the apartment, but on being discovered ran out of the apartment and was later arrested at a nearby business complex. The arrested man was out on bond in connection with two other vehicle thefts.
